Case Study Overview

The Gull Wing is an iconic and important bridge for Lowestoft, being delivered by Suffolk County Council and built by Farrans Construction. Opening in 2023, the bridge will be a much-needed third crossing over the town’s Lake Lothing. The Gull Wing will reduce traffic congestion in the town, regenerate the area and attract new investment for the local economy.

In 2021, Quinn Piling chartered Red7Marine’s 400t deck capacity Haven Seaseven Jack-up Barge to undertake piling operations.

The Solution

Quinn Piling was contracted by Farrans Construction to install dolphin piles as a part of the construction for the Gull Wing Bridge.

The team worked closely to an underground power network tunnel and utilised a low vibration push method to install the piles. Red7Marine supplied its 400t Haven Seaseven jack-up barge to facilitate the marine piling operations.
