Case Study Overview
The Viking Link is a HVDC electricity transmission interconnector between Denmark and England, a joint venture between National Grid and Energinet. The HDD marine works began in February 2021 at Boygrift, Lincolnshire (English Landfall).

The Solution
The HDD works were carried out by Maritech, managed by Prysmian and covered the installation of two separate high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, in separate drilled holes.
The total length of each drilling was approximately 550m which was progressed from the land side to the marine exit point. Red7Marine’s Haven Seariser 4 was used as the main marine support platform for the HDD back reaming works and pipe pullback, as well as a support platform for the excavation works.
The Heaven Seariser 4 was mobilised to the exit location of the HDD prior the completion of the drilling of each bore.
Whilst the HDD team onshore and the marine team were preparing for the pipe pull in through the drilled bore, the Multicat “Forth Drummer” collected the HDPE pipe from the mooring place in King’s Lynn Port and transported it to the working site at Boygrift.
