Marine Contracting

With an extensive track record, Red7Marine has a wealth of experience carrying out marine construction projects in what can often be highly challenging and dynamic situations or environments. This experience alongside an extensive fleet of marine plant, ideally positions the company as a leading marine contractor in the UK.

Aside from marine plant hire (jack-up, flat-top barges), Red7Marine also has its own contracting division. Using our in-house capabilities, we can plan and execute a range of marine piling techniques from the deck of our jack-up barges. We are able to work with clients through the planning process of a project to identify and mitigate risks and to find the most economical solution.

We pride ourselves in working collaboratively to try and get the best engineered solution. We have and in-house engineering team and an operational and project management team that can provide input and advice, drawing on past experiences we have from similar projects.

An example of our capabilities is Twelve Quays, where Red7Marine supported Farrans to construct tubular bored piles into the rock riverbed. Here Farrans was Principal Contractor for the project, and we provided the marine resources and helped co-ordinate the barge moves. We also designed all the piling gates so they could be used to provide temporary support for the piles from the deck of the jack-up barge. Several difficult moves were required in strong tidal conditions, and this meant using careful planning and sequencing. Timing and co-ordination on these types of projects is essential – with some of the team working nights to get the barges moved so that the plant and equipment could then be working and fully utilised the next morning.

Our Barrier Gardens project is a good example of heavy-duty marine piling using our 400T Haven Seaseven jack-up barge on the River Thames. The piling operations needed careful lift planning and co-ordination as the piles were circa. 40m long and difficult to lift into the gate. Here we provided a bespoke gate to hold the pile and to ensure it was installed within 50mm of design position.

As a specialist marine contractor, Red7Marine has the means in-house to offer, Engineering Services, in the form of leg penetration calculations, jacked and floating stability and site-specific environmental assessments. These are safety-critical checks in the assessment of barge type and capacity.

Beyond that we employ our own skilled mobilisation and operations teams to put the barges to work. If required, we can offer marine coordinators to organise the on-site marine works either directly related to the jack up’s or with regards to all floating plant.
