Case Study Overview
The Burbo Bank offshore windfarm extension is a renewables project to extend the existing Burbo Bank offshore windfarm by a further 258MW, which will generate enough energy to meet the needs of 230,000 homes. Red7Marine provided the complete package for the Haven Seajack 3 Jack Up Barge.
At a glance
- Location: Burbo Flats, Liverpool Bay, Irish Sea
- Plant used: Haven SeaJack 3 Jack Up Barge
- What we did: Red7Marine supplied and operated the Haven Seajack 3 jack up barge to assist in the installation of the export cable for the offshore windfarm.
The Challenge
The offshore cable delivery vessel was located 1km from shore in deeper water, which required Red7Marine’s Haven Seajack 3 to be positioned in the intertidal zone and provide cable installation support. Due to the length of the export cable, an intermediate tensioning setup was required to avoid causing any damage to the export cable, and provide a stable platform for the divers to remove the pillow floats from the cable.

The Solution
Red7Marine supplied the Haven Seajack 3 configured in a bespoke layout providing a cantilevered area to allow the cable tensioning equipment to be fitted for the installation of the export cable. The jack up barge had a 40t telescopic crawler crane on board to support operations.
