Case Study Overview
A 500m long marine jetty was required at Hinkley to allow materials to be delivered to site for the construction of the new nuclear power station. The marine jetty is supported on tubular steel piles with prefabricated steel sections forming the roadway. Precast concrete deck panels were installed on top of the steel roadway sections to form the finished jetty. A conveyor system will be installed along one side of the jetty to allow bulk materials to be delivered by ship, reducing the amount of HGV road movements throughout the project.

The Challenge
Strong currents, a 12m tidal range and an exposed coastline would pose significant challenges so specialist marine equipment was required. The marine heavy lifts required varied up to 100t, so a substantial and versatile jack up barge was required for the project. The project materials for the marine jetty were all supplied from the construction base at Avonmouth Docks.
The Solution
The Eurojack 3923 with its 800t deck capacity was carefully selected for the project with a 400t capacity Terex crawler crane loaded onto the jack up barge.
Red7Marine’s in-house engineers provided the bespoke stability calculations and sea-fastening designs for all of the various prefabricated sections that were transported to site on the barge.
An experienced marine engineer was seconded to the project to assist our client with the project planning and marine supervision.
