Case Study Overview
On behalf of VINCI Construction, Red7Marine supported the client on a £20 million restoration project on York’s Guildhall – a 15th century, municipal Grade I listed building.

- Location: York
- Plant used: Haven Seajack 2
The Challenge
As a historically significant building in the heart of York, it was important not only for the Guildhall’s structure to be safeguarded throughout the project, but also for the restoration to not disrupt York’s local community. Additionally, the building’s location has limited access via roads, meaning that alternative means of bringing the materials and equipment to site had to be explored.

The Solution
Our Haven Seajack 2 jack-up barge was successfully positioned alongside York’s Guildhall after a challenging mobilisation. This process required a bespoke approach which included barge assembly, leg installation, crane loading, leg removal to deck, transit through a bridge, leg installation whilst afloat, complex positioning and preloading in a stabilised condition. Due to the complex nature of the project, all of the elements required careful planning and execution with the river being in and out of flood.
Once positioned, Red7Marine’s barge provided a stable platform from which to operate a 100T telescopic boom crane. This setup then allowed each element of the tower crane, now visible on York’s skyline, to be floated upriver and lifted into place in the grounds of the Guildhall.
